Pray for Bible College Students

“I request you to pray for my family and my studies and my future ministry, that no matter what my family situation or my situation is, I will be serving God, and I will be doing His work.” —Jonas, a Bible college student

This month, our prayer focus is the many men and women who are studying in Bible colleges on the field to become national missionaries. At each of these schools, students are preparing themselves for ministry among the hardest-to-reach, and they need our prayers to persevere in this calling God has given them. Would you join us as we support these dedicated brothers and sisters in prayer?

Pray for Protection

As the Apostle Paul reminds us, our struggle is not against flesh and blood (see Ephesians 6:12). Bible college students feel this reality deeply. As they equip themselves for the calling God has placed on their lives, they may face spiritual attacks in many different forms—health issues, pressure from family, stress in the face of challenging school assignments, discouragement, homesickness, or even relational struggles as they interact with fellow students.

Pray that God will strengthen and protect these brothers and sisters as they pursue the calling He has given them. Pray for physical health and well-being, as well as encouragement for their hearts. Pray for His mercy and grace in relationships—whether with individuals on campus or with family and neighbors back home. And pray that nothing will keep these dear brothers and sisters from fulfilling their calling in Christ.

Pray for Transformation

Our founder, K.P. Yohannan, always operated with the understanding that if we want to transform communities with Christ’s love, Christ’s love must first transform us. That’s why, while Bible college students do receive training in systematic biblical studies and practical ministry, they also spend a large part of their time developing spiritual disciplines such as prayer, having a genuine walk with the Lord, and cultivating a passion for those who still wait to hear of Christ’s love. Our prayer is that their time in Bible college will be the catalyst they need to build a firm foundation in Christ—a foundation that will support them as they “go into all the world” (Mark 16:15).

Pray that God will bless Bible college students as they seek to know Him more fully and intimately. Pray that as they study, serve and engage in spiritual disciplines, He will transform them more and more into the image of Christ. Pray He will lay a strong foundation in each of them so that they will be able to serve Him well in the calling He’s given them.

Pray for Students’ Families

A common prayer request among Bible college students is that the Lord will work in the lives of their families back home. Many students have family members who haven’t experienced hope in Christ for themselves, relatives who struggle with addiction or loved ones facing health issues. Some students have supportive families, while others come from families that don’t understand or approve of their decision to attend Bible college. And, just as we all do, students get homesick for the people they love.

Please pray with Bible college students for the salvation of their loved ones. Pray also that God will work in the lives of each student’s family—meeting needs, healing sicknesses and delivering from addictions. Pray that God will give grace and wisdom to students who face difficult family situations—whether because of relational tensions or because they can’t be present to help their families in ways they would otherwise. Pray also for comfort for both the students and their families, that God will give them grace for the time that they are apart.

Pray for Stamina and Understanding

Like other students, brothers and sisters in Bible college have assignment deadlines, final exams and classes that challenge them mentally as well as spiritually. They also participate in practical ministry activities and the life of the Bible college community. Their days are full, and they need energy and wisdom as they pursue the calling God has given them.

Please pray that God will give students hearts and minds to absorb the many things they’re learning. Ask Him to give them understanding, even for the challenging classes, and grace for deadlines and exams. Pray also for energy and wisdom as students balance study with other parts of life. Most of all, pray these men and women will receive everything God has for them during their time in Bible college.

Pray for Graduates

As Bible college students near the end of their time in school, they know they will soon be going to a community in need of Christ’s love. There are many unknowns, but these courageous brothers and sisters step out in faith to pursue Christ and His call. Let’s support them as they begin the next part of their journey!

Please pray God will give soon-to-be and recent graduates peace and a confidence in His leading and provision. Pray God will lead each new national missionary to exactly the right community and that He will prepare them, even before they graduate, to serve those particular people. Pray that in each community where a new missionary arrives, people’s hearts will be ready to receive Christ’s love. Pray also that missionaries will rely on Christ for the passion, wisdom and courage they need to share the Good News with their new community.
