The Purnia Bihar Region

The name of this region in east Bihar is derived from a word meaning “lotus flower.” This beautiful flower is considered sacred in Hindu and Buddhist tradition and grows in abundance in the Purnia Bihar Region.

The region is also known as the birthplace of Buddha and Jain, the founder of the Jainism faith.

Thousands of acres of lush tea gardens are found in this area of Bihar, and hundreds of birds migrate each year to Kachuudah Lake, a scenic natural lake.

The majority of the people in the Purnia Region are employed in agriculture; however, mining and mineral production operations also provide employment for many.
