A Mere Delusion
first published: Sept. 15, 2004 – Gospel for Asia
Even as a young child Perumal performed rituals to his parents’ many deities. As the years passed, he continued in this tradition. Despite all the sacrifices, peace evaded Perumal. Deep down he knew his religion did nothing to heal the ache he felt inside. Yet he had nowhere to turn. This was the only life he knew.
At this dark time a close relative visited the family and told them about a Savior, Jesus Christ. Perumal had never heard of this Jesus. The relative continued to share and, in time, the family gave their hearts to Christ. “It was as if God himself were calling us out to follow Him,” Perumal said. They realized the path they had followed was merely a delusion: Life abundant was found in Jesus Christ. Perumal’s outlook radically changed and he began to live a fuller life—this time, for Jesus.
In obedience to God’s call, he studied at a Bible college to prepare for full-time Gospel outreach in his native India. Praise God that by His grace, Gospel for Asia’s Bible colleges are filled with thousands of young men and women who, like Perumal, are getting ready to “… proclaim the praises of Him who called [them] out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9, NKJV).” Pray their witness will be used to draw multitudes of unreached people to Christ.
